Laboratory Services

Lab StaffIf you need a laboratory test, Yuma District Hospital Laboratory can provide you the services requested by your Doctor. We are able to perform over 93% of all tests ordered by your Doctor in our Laboratory, sending the remaining 7 percent to our reference Laboratory for more specialized testing. The Yuma District Hospital Laboratory is affiliated with University of Colorado Hospital for Pathology and reference services.

HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. for outpatient testing. A Technologist is on call for Emergency and Inpatient testing at all other times.

Our Laboratory is supervised by Board Certified Pathologists from Denver's University Hospital in the following areas:

 

  • PATHOLOGY: Pathologist’s from University of Colorado Hospital provide consultation to our physicians and laboratory staff to assure that all testing is being performed to meet governmentand industry standards.
  • HEMATOLOGY: Services include performing blood cell counts which include WBC-Infections, hemoglobin-for iron deficiency and requiring blood or blood products, manual cell counts to check for leukemia, anemia, etc., and other services as requested by physicians.
  • MICROBIOLOGY: Body fluid and wound cultures to detect bacteria and sensitivity to antibiotics.
  • BLOOD BANK: Provide blood typing, blood and blood products ordered by your physician.
  • COAGULATION: Provide testing for patients on warfarin or other blood thinners. Other Services to detect clotting deficiencies.
  • CHEMISTRY: Chemistry testing to check body organ and systems functions for Medication reactions and diseases (such as Glucose-diabetes testing).
  • URINE DRUG SCREENING: Provide rapid testing for illegal drugs for area employers.
  • URINALYSIS: Testing of urine specimens for bacteria and other body chemicals to detect infections and kidney abnormalities.
  • CYTOLOGY: Specimens sent to a Pathologist for testing for cancer and other cell abnormalities.
  • HISTOLOGY: Surgical tissue specimens sent to a Pathologist for testing for cancer and other tissue cell abnormalities.
