Dr. H. Andrew Motz
As the son of a school nurse and teacher/coach, Dr. H. Andrew Motz comes by his interest in sports medicine honestly. After spending many hours on athletic fields, he became interested in injury prevention and the care of injured athletes.
A native of Denver, Dr. Motz attended Denver East High School where he graduated first in his class and participated in many activities including football and baseball. He was awarded the prestigious Boettcher Scholarship and attended Colorado College.
While continuing to play football and baseball, earning four varsity letters in each sport, Dr. Motz was awarded the E.C. Van Diest Award as the outstanding scholar athlete at Colorado College, and was one of 26 scholar/football players at all levels to receive a NCAA post graduate scholarship for outstanding achievement. He graduated in 1984 magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Motz attended medical school at the University of Colorado. While there, he provided care to the athletes of the Denver Public Schools and assisted with CU athletes under Dr. Wayne Gersoff. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, focusing on arthroscopic reconstructions and the care of collegiate athletes.
Dr. Motz returned to Colorado in 1994 to start in private practice. He has worked at the professional level as a team physician for the Colorado Rockies, Colorado Rapids, Denver Grizzlies, and Metro State College, and he has traveled as team physician with the USA Hockey team. He continues to cover many high school sporting events as the medical director of the Colorado High School Activities Association and Denver Public Schools. He is also interested in organized medicine, serving on the Board of Directors of the Denver Medical Society and as a delegate for the last six years to the Colorado Medical Society annual meeting.
Dr. Motz is married and has two children. He and his family share a love of sports, book collecting and travel.
Yuma District Hospital is able to provide most of the tests Dr. Motz uses in diagnosing his patients, including general x-rays, CT scans, MRI, and special injections requiring radiology supervision. Many surgical procedures can also be performed at Yuma District Hospital, including knee, shoulder, and general orthopedic procedures as well as epidural injections for back pain.
Dr. Motz’s practice (Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Specialists, P.C. in Denver) accepts most insurance plans, HMO/PPOs and Medicare/Medicaid. The Yuma District Hospital and Dr. Motz’s office understand the increasing complexity of insurance requirements and claim procedures, and we will work together to assist you in processing your claims.
