Dr. John F. Wolz
Dr. John F. Wolz is a native of Chicago and still has a soft spot for “Da Bears.” After undergraduate studies at Harvard University and Medical School at Northwestern University, he came to Colorado in 1975 for his residency. He has been serving Northeast Colorado since 1981 and has had a regular clinic in Yuma since 1985. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both Surgery and Critical Care.
Dr. Wolz has a passion for bringing the skills and technology available in major medical centers to the citizens of Northeast Colorado. Dr. Wolz specializes in laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. He brought portable endoscopy equipment to Yuma in the 1980s before the hospital acquired its first system, building the program to the present level that serves more than 350 patients per year. He has introduced laparoscopic surgical technology that brings quality care to Yuma residents without the need to leave the community. He also practices on the Level 1 Trauma Service at Swedish Medical Center, which offers an opportunity to identify new medical innovations to bring to Yuma.
Dr. Wolz can perform many of your general surgical needs, including, but not limited to, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, hernia repairs, gallbladder removals, carpel tunnel, vasectomies, tubal ligations, mastectomies, and breast biopsies.
Dr. Wolz has served 10 years as a Director of the COPIC Insurance Company, fulfilling the professional insurance needs of Colorado physicians. This has provided him a role in the evolving patient safety movement, and also led to a volunteer position with 9 Health Fair on their Medical Advisory Board.
Dr. John Wolz and his wife, Cynthia, have three children. Joe is serving in the Navy, Claire has recently graduated from CSU and is looking for the “perfect job,” and Michael is in the 5th grade. In his spare time Dr. Wolz enjoys cycling, skiing, and swimming.
As the longest tenured member of the Medical staff, Dr. Wolz wants the Yuma District Hospital and its physician staff to provide the community with both quality care and personal attention to individual needs.
